Tour Description
We will pick up you from the hotel 8:30am and start the tour to Kampong Kleang village, settled at the edge of the great lake Tonle Sap, and about 55km from Siem Reap city. People have been settling at Kampong Khleang for centuries. The village was assumed, by some scholars, to be a port during the Angkor period. There is some evidence of Angkorean remains in the village. Kampong Khleang is a must-see village during your trip. The village is surrounded by marvelous natural scenery and wildlife.
Kampong Khleang is the biggest community of floating villages in Siem Reap with the population of 10,000 people. They live on stable stilt houses, built on the top of water all year round. Some houses are as high as 10 meters up. There are also schools, restaurants, pagodas, churches, mosques, and even small stores. During dry season (December – April), people can travel by motorbike to the village, but in the rainy season the village is flooded and the only way to reach it is by boat.
Agriculture and fishing are the main economic activities of Kampong Khleang villagers. When the Tonle Sap floods the village, it brings nutritious soil and tons of fish for the residents and when it withdraws back, people do their farming on the land.
